Winter is upon us, and Jack Frost is at our door (and on our roofs). We need to keep in mind what is going on with our roofs during this harsh time of year.
The snow is falling, and it looks so peaceful and serene. But one step outside and Brrrrrr! It’s really cold out there! It wasn’t that cold yesterday, and maybe it won’t be as bad tomorrow? Most folks don’t realize that our roofs are cycling through freeze, and the cycles that are wearing them out at a rate faster than roofs in milder climates.
Maybe the snow had started to melt, and then froze over night, or when the sun moved to another elevation on our home. When this happens repeatedly, as it often does, it can cause ice damming. Ice dam’s creates major headaches for homeowners! Not only do they wreak havoc on your roof, roof deck, and structural components of your home. They also cause drywall, plaster, paint, and insulation damage. As well as mold and mildew problems.
If you notice an excessive amount of icicle formations, large icicles, or a thick ice layer above your gutter line you need to get a professional out to take a look before it turns into a major problem! A properly trained professional roofing technician knows how to handle the task of removing, and if necessary, repairing the damage ice dams can cause.
Here at The Shingle Company we have been safely dealing with ice dam removal and repairs for three generations. So we have the knowledge and experience to get the job done right!
Email, or give us a call with any questions you may have. One of our knowledgeable and friendly representatives will be happy to help! We can get out promptly to take care of your home safely, and professionally.
In the meantime stay warm, and count the days until spring! I know I am!
